14 March, 2010 - Digestion

“Digestion”

Nude
I stand, as vanilla vapor swirls through the air,
Fogged mirrors conceal
Dirt stains caking my bleeding face:
Crimson warmth caressing cold soil.

Crystalline scalding water tumbles toward the porcelain coffin,
Splattered droplets futilely grasp edgeless corners
Slipping downward - swallowed instantaneously.

Trembling,
Walking beyond combs, brushes, liquor bottles
Littered counter tops,
Twisting right I cease the jettisoned water
Stare remorsefully downward
Steam soaking my puffy eyes

Rouge tinted waves crowd the inviting encasement,
Inescapable - heat sterilizing pale, sloping lips;
Puddles, shallow, embrace a tiny shelter of blue shag rug.

Slowly
I breach the blazing surface,
My arms ripen, red, hands frantically search,
Plant – graze over indentations, minuscule –
Knees provide support, minor;
I am a canine, on all fours, reluctant,
Gazing below, crimson water clouding,
My arms collapse – my head submerges –
Passion concentrate, siphoning new scars,
Silently I struggle.

Bruised waters release my burning limp gasping frame,
Relieved, my husk marinates in the swirling grime –
A stray vodka bottle falls, consumed by the ravenous porcelain.

9 March, 2010 - Untitled

Train doors open with a heavy sigh,
Spewing forth droves of uniform
Individuals
Flooding the crushed concrete tablet paths.
Asphalt fields silent – suppressed sounds
Boiling over in the summer’s youth –
Holding vigil amidst hanged lights.
Illuminated –
Cracking slowly, sparking and flaring.
Cars emit bursts of urban bugles,
Dirges sound for full elevators
Climbing,
Hollow Trains fleeing.

Pigeons perched on telephone wires,
Wires strangling the scaling sun
Sedate the weary skyline,
Scanning forgotten strips.
Deserted –
Crumbling shops sit still, lethargically,
Covering congested street corners,
Fractured –
A trauma center of decaying business
Sustained, hardly, in critical unity.
Beaten brooms sweep broken tile,
Brushing away suppression –
Repression – strewn,
Comatose,
The Noose tightens.

Rains caress vacant cardboard boxes,
Makeshift cradles collapse inward,
Crowding ancient tenements.
Empty whisky bottle banks
Floating –
Flooded cellars, stagnant ponds,
Washed out family portraits
Deceased,
Memories gasping
Bodies crawling
Buried ambition
Diluted –
Sheltered children seated on the subway.

Train wheels whine, suspended in motion

2 November, 2009 - Fishbowl

Fishbowl

Twelve years before, my arms fell off
And scales sprouted from my neck.
Slithering along the shoreline slowly
Waves cradled my shifting frame.
Dandelions bloomed on Saturday.

Fifteen miles below the surface,
I stand three car lengths long,
Feeding twice a day on flounder
And unlucky divers.
Moonlight shone on Sunday.

Seaweed dangles from my jaw,
Skin molded from the pressure,
A mobile mountain through the water
Never sleeping, always floating.
Blue Jays hatched on Monday.

Ruling over the ocean
With a tyrant's fist,
Octopus futilely wrestle my flippers
We sail on through the mists.
Clouds exploded on Tuesday.

Diving ever deeper
I sedate my growing body,
Reasonably aware of my collapsing lungs,
Water wiping away my memory.
Streetlights rattled on Wednesday.

Settling at the bottom my imprint sets,
Twelve more years I'll be humbled,
Two more days, I can forget.
My pocket-watch snapped in June.
Tornadoes sang on Thursday.

Perfect memories of the golden daze,
Spring afternoons walking down Fifth Street
In our drunken haze.
I'm still growing or shrinking.
You set sail on Friday.

Grieving willows hang
Proudly at the morning light-
Decaying Cities
Dropping through brimming Manholes
Choking with Regret.

31 October, 2009 - "Montecito Complex, 1986"

Montecito Complex, 1986

Clouds, Crimson:
Snapping branches the sky tumbles downward,
Machines rolling onward,
Manufactured Men strung along the Forest
Stagger past the sleeping Cardinals
Toward the factories.
Uniforms, Yellow:
Alarms whine with exhaustion,
Elation,
Workers dancing in unison grab levers,
Children in a Toy Box,
Daunting tasks rendered menial,
Not meaningless,
Active, proactive, Professional.
Springing above inferior superiors-
Supervisors-
Penthouse, Purple:
Hands adorning the regal halls,
Nails supporting custom portraits,
Drapes of hair shielding the sun,
Cinder Block Smiles Illuminating
Lampshades of Flesh,
Ocular ice cubes spilling vodka
Over Your rugs of marrow.
Tumbling skies puncturing Your palace,
Standing above the flattened vendors,
Immobile and Ascending,
Grazing eyes survey the barren surface.
Tombstones, Blue:
